How would you describe your field and main tasks?
I am a consultant in our NewTech department, where we use cutting edge technology to add value to our clients. Our team consists of technical as well as business people, with a good understanding of (new) technologies.
As one of the technical team members, my main areas are Machine Learning, IoT, RPA as well as Chat & Voicebots. Besides working with those technologies and implementing them, I also participate in client meetings, align client wishes with our business colleagues, and work on several internal digitalization initiatives. A great example of an internal project is our new Inspiration Lab where we display technologies from mini drones to movement sensors.

What are the most exciting and challenging parts of your job?
The most exciting part of my job is the ability to constantly develop my skills within new areas and learn from some of the best people in the industry. It is exciting to follow a project from the beginning to the end and actually see the challenges when you go from theoretical to practical implementation. It requires a lot of concurrent tasks and the ability to manage both, the stakeholders, and the required technical knowledge.

How do you use your education in your position?
My background is within industrial robotics engineering. This knowledge has given me a good base in understanding new technologies and how to apply them. The ability to learn and adapt is something I use every day in both the technical part of my work, and the business side of it.
I need to use my knowledge within different technologies, as well as my ability to communicate them whenever I am facing a non-technical client. This can be challenging, but it is really rewarding once you see the client truly understands
the technology and the value it will bring.

What are the three most important things for you in your job at KPMG?
The first important thing is that I am constantly challenged to develop my professional, as well as my personal skills. As we are working with new technology, it is important to know what is happening around you. Therefore, we prioritize going to conferences around the world and talking to interesting start-ups.
Secondly, I get to learn from some of the best people within their respective industries. It is exciting to have that kind of access to knowledge and get to work alongside them.
Lastly, I am able to shape my own day and the way we work in our team. The best example is when I argued that we needed a lab to move more towards the development and implementation of hardware. It took less than two weeks until I was able to buy the desired equipment and setup the Inspiration Lab.

Why is KPMG an attractive company for you?
I see KPMG as an attractive workplace, because the company has a good and agile mind-set. In the beginning I was afraid of being a"technical person" in a business dominated environment, but as it turned out, this was an advantage.
Furthermore, I like the emphasis on social activities, both with the graduate group but also across the entire firm and within my own department. This really adds to the low hierarchy and it makes sure you are heard if you have something to contribute with.
