How would you describe your field and main tasks?
I work at Accenture Strategy, focusing primarily on Technology Strategy. At Accenture Strategy, we are passionate about shaping our clients’ future. Combining deep business insight with the understanding of how technology will impact industry and business models, we help our clients find future value and growth in a digital world. My role typically involves structured problem solving, stakeholder management, planning and execution of interviews and workshops, data analysis and presentation of results.
On my current project, we are helping a client in the public sector strategically approach a highly complex and politically sensitive situation, in which the organization needs to decommission and replace IT systems central to their business. With the team’s advisory role, we are helping the client form a data cleaning and conversion strategy for moving data from the legacy system to the new system. As part of this endeavor, we are currently assessing the organization’s Data Management and Data Governance practice, to identify challenges and critical actions, making sure that their business is supported.

What are the most exciting and challenging parts of your job?
What I find most exciting about being a consultant lies in the very essence of Strategy Consulting; helping clients solve their most complex problems. It can be a challenge having to, in short time, immerse oneself in the client organization to gain an understanding of the company’s situation, main problems, needs and wants - good enough to make a recommendation of a suitable solution to the problem (or opportunity) at hand. Usually, multiple stakeholders are involved in the projects we work on, and another challenge lies in managing stakeholders with different, sometimes conflicting, interests.

How do you use your education from CBS in your position?
Through my studies at CBS I further developed my strategic mindset and structured way of approaching complex problems, and gained a solid business understanding, which are some of the central assets I use as a Strategy Consultant (or Analyst). Approaches for primary research collection and analysis are applied and further developed in my job as well. In general, the case based teaching method and examinations at CBS, could be said to represent simplified examples of Consultant projects.

What are the three most important things for you in your job at Accenture?
Working with smart people
Accenture has an expert in anything somewhere on the planet and they are always willing to help.
Following a steep learning curve
Not only is the nature of the job and working with smart people creating a steep learning curve, Accenture also invests heavily in educating their employees, from basic consulting skills, to Agile, to more technical skills.
Being able to combine work with my desire to engage in CSR
Accenture has great opportunities for people who, like myself, has a passion for “changing the world”. I recently went to Africa with Accenture, as part of a small team, helping a Startup form a Go-To-Market Strategy for a multisided platform. There are several internal organizations available for one to engage in and meet likeminded people and contribute to projects within CSR, environmental affairs etc.

Why is Accenture an attractive company for you?
Coming from an education focusing primarily on business strategy, design and innovation in a digital world, and a student job as a consultant and relationship manager for Nordic Startups on behalf of a global software company; it became clear to me that I had a passion for the intersection of business and technology. When a colleague of mine (at my previous employer) told me about Accenture Strategy and what they do, I was immediately convinced that this was the place for me, which it turned out to be.
